The Carlton Club in Whalley Range have a new thing, for the time being called 'Sunday Social Night'. The idea is in the name - a fairly chilled night with plenty of opportunity to socialise and some live music.

The next one is Sunday March 5th and I shall be playing there with Dr Hoppo's Urban Rooftops Quartet. This is a slimmed down version of my big band, (some key members are temporarily awol) so we'll be playing a focussed version of our usual mix of cool and uplifting jazz, latin and soul tunes.

It's free entry, doors open at 8pm with two 35 minute spots at about 8.40 and 9.30. A hat will be passed.

Expect an accent on Latin rhythms with tunes from Tania Maria, Poncho Sanchez, AC Jobim, Sergio Mendes, interspersed with Leonard Cohen, Nina Simone, Norah Jones and more.

I hope to see some of you on the night.
Cheers,
Steve (Dr Hoppo) Hopkins

Back in the day, band leader Steve played worked and played with the like of John Cooper Clarke, Happy Mondays, Jilted John, Pauline Murray, the Jazz Defektors, Distant Cousins, The Bernhardts and even played on Morrisey’s Ouija board. His musical bag has changed a lot though, since he discovered the use of the sharpened flattened fifth! He also really is a doctor of laser physics, in case you have any pressing questions about stimulated emission!
